My wife and I have been married for over five years now and have had a joint account since the beginning. I can’t tell you how much it has helped our marriage. It not only forces us to talk about money but by working together on our spending we are aligning our goals and dreams. In essence when you agree on your spending; you have agreed on your life.

Also having separate accounts, I have found it to be very difficult to succeed financially. Having coached couples for four years on money management, those that do well having one bank account. I have found that those couples who have separate accounts are doing ok at best; and struggling at worst. Those who don’t combine their finances 100% are missing out on a great opportunity not only to communicate about their money, but to communicate in other areas of their life as well.
